Broken Springs on Garage Doors: Safety Precautions

DASMA suggests having old springs inspected and replaced by a professional technician. For a full explanation why springs should only be handled by trained professionals, please check out our post on Torsion Springs. If your door is installed with two springs, always replace both even if only one is broken. For the same reason you would replace the tires on your car in “sets” rather than one at a time, replacing both springs will prevent damage resulting from the breaking of the second spring and keep your door working efficiently. Broken springs should always be removed and replaced by trained professionals.
