SHGC Values on Overhead Sectional Doors

June 20, 2018

SGHC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) is a value sometimes called out is building codes or specifications for overhead sectional doors. It is basically the ability of a glass unit to resist or reflect solar radiation from the sun. SHGC value is expressed in a number between 0 and 1 and is one of the (3) most common values linked to insulated overhead sectional doors.

What is the SHGC on a Garage Door?

One of the most important things to understand about SHGC is that the lower the value is (the closer it is to 0) the better preforming the glass unit is. For glass garage doors, achieving a good SHGC such as .4 will involve the use of a Low E coating on the glass. SHGC values of less than .4 are possible with ArmRLite sectional doors so please contact our sales department regarding your specific project.

The SHGC is related to the glazing or glass units only and not a values that speaks to the whole sectional door assembly.
